Sustainable Yoga (and Pilates)

By practicing yoga (or pilates), we make the conscious choice to do something positive for our body and for our mind. But what if we could also do something positive for our planet and minimise our environmental footprint?

Yoga mat:

If you’re looking for an eco-friendly yoga mat, I recommend you to buy it from ReYoga, which is an Italian brand that sells 100% recyclable, 100% biodegradable and 100% eco-friendly mats. ReYoga also sells blocks made of recycled cork and other yoga accessories.

Cleaning your mat:

To clean your mat, you can purchase a spray bottle and fill it with:

  • 3 Tbsp alcohol

  • 8 drops of Tea Tree oil

  • 8 drops of Lemongrass essential oil

  • 8 drops of Lime essential oil

  • 6 drops of your favourite essential oils (we recommend 3 drops of Lavender and 3 drops of Basil)

  • Water to fill the rest of the bottle

After you practice, you simply need to spray the mixture on the mat and wipe with a cloth.

Activewear:

We can make choices that are not too heavy on the planet also when we choose what to wear, mainly by paying extra attention to the fabrics of the actvewear we buy.

If you want to check the sustainability of some brands you already know, you can look them up on Good On You. Otherwise, here are some brands that I like:

- Organic Basics, which invests in durable materials and ethical labor conditions.

- Isabelle Moon, which exclusively uses eco-friendly materials and natural dyes (picture below).

- Inhala Soulwear, which uses materials like organic cotton or nylon that comes from recycling abandoned plastic and fishing nets.

Notes

For the essential oils, we highly recommend the ones sold by DoTerra.
